SPOILER:
The ship with the Wave Motion Gun wins.

That is a terrible design for a spacecraft

Indeed. It does a remarkably good job, considering.

What anime is this again?

It’s the best design ever!! ^_^
Star trek has some of the worst designed ships :p

Space Battleship Yamato 2199 . It’s a reboot of the original Space Battleship Yamato, which aired in the US as, I believe, Star Blazers.

Hey now, I appreciate the badassness of the glorious Uchuu Senkan Yamato as much as the next guy, but the Enterprise D will always be my first love.

Taken down by a single bird of prey because no one thought to take Geordi to sickbay instead of having him go straight to engineering and turning him into a walking gopro to see the shield frequency -_-

Well earth wasn’t in good shape. Humanity lived underground and surface water had dried up. While underground, the humans found the shipwreck of the Yamato, got some help from an alien queen for the main armament and bam! Humanity was off to the edge of the galaxy to save the human race.
So all things considered, it was (fictionally) pretty damn good. And what a perfect vessel for the rebirth of our homeworld, a ship risen from the ashes to redeem us all.

Picking a losing ship seems like a bad idea

I love FTL arrivals. Mass Effect 3’s big battle is probably my favourite but the Yamato runs a close second and given the difference in ship count that says a lot.

Not just a single Bird of Prey—an old, outdated, obsolete single Bird of Prey . Words cannot describe my degree of... Dissatisfaction, with the death of my favourite Enterprise.

I quite like the Infinity’s explosive arrival in Halo 4 Spartan Ops. (4:40, ‘cause YouTube ‘start at’ still doesn’t work for shit.)
There’s another pretty cool fleet FTL moment towards the end of this video... But, really, watch the entire thing. It’s just gloriously ridiculous.

That movie ruined the Enterprise-D forever.

If that was the real Yamato, it wouldn’t have been able to hit the broad-side of a barn and the commanding officer would have run away at the
first sign of resistance.

I prefer to think of it as that scene having ruined the - already cruddy - generations. TNG is my Star Trek, and the Enterprise D will always be, well, the Enterprise to me.
![]() 08/30/2015 at 22:14 |

It also probably wouldn’t be in space.

Enterprise was better than Generations. And Defiant’s destruction in DS9 was more wholesome than what I forced myself to watch.
But that crash sequence was rather epic. It was the best part of the movie.

Oh, yeah, the actual saucer section crash bit was fantastic. Trees? Nah. Hill? Nah. More trees? Still nah—I gotta park this starship!

It was like parking at Wal-Mart.

Honor Harrington would still probably find a way to take it down.

Invoking Honor Harrington is cheating, and you know it.

the live action remake wasn’t bad either -
